The Claddagh Story

The first Claddagh symbol, crafted in the form of a ring, came in the 17th century in the village of Claddagh, just outside the city of Galway. Many stories and myths tell the tale of the creator of this iconic piece of Irish heritage, but there is no one proven individual. Over time, each part of the ring has taken on a meaning: the heart symbolizes love, the hands friendship and the crown loyalty.

The classic symbol of the Claddagh lives on, featured not only on rings, but pendants, earrings, brooches and more. Traditionally seen as a symbol rooted in romantic love, it also makes a great git for a friend, family member or yourself. Claddagh rings remain very popular, adorning the hands of well-known political figures, celebrities and more.

How to Wear your Claddagh Ring

Traditionally, this ring can be worn in four different ways:

  1. Left-hand, heart facing outward: You are engaged
  2. Left-hand, heart facing inward: You are married
  3. Right-hand, heart facing outward: You are single and looking for love
  4. Right-hand, heart facing inward: You are in a committed relationship

However, these are not strict rules, and one can wear this ring any way they please!
